One Night of Tiny House Bliss
Monday night, I tried on my first Tiny House for size. That’s right, I went to the store, picked one out my size and went into the fitting room. OK, actually spent the night at the Caravan Tiny House Hotel in the Northwest area of Portland, Oregon.
Tiny Vacation
It was wonderful. I stayed at the Kangablue, which is the newest arrival. At only 15 SM (160 Square Feet) plus a sleeping loft, it was just right. Surprisingly roomy. I will write-up a more comprehensive review soon, as I seemed to have caught a flu-like thing… I always want to see too much of a new city, and invariably exhaust myself. I wish I had planned a week or two in this hotel, and I could have tried them all. Below is a sampling of pictures for your enjoyment. You can read more about the six tiny houses available to stay in part of the Caravan here: http://tinyhousehotel.com
Awesome sign. You can tell the owners have a great appreciation for art.
Approach from the street.
Here’s the entry gate, again – awesome!
Plenty of ways to relax.
The hoteliers put out firewood and s’mores fixings, although it hit over 90 degrees that day. Next time, perhaps.
This is the broad side of the Kangablue, facing the inner court with six other tiny houses.
Texture and rustic layout of shingles on the front and the bench was a nice touch.
This was the first thing I saw when entering. Although I forgot to stow the ladder before taking this shot. It hangs out of the way next to the dining table.
This sofa becomes a twin bed when the arms are folded down.
All these great full-opening windows.
Kitchen has everything needed in easy reach.
The bathroom entrance.
Standard residential flush toilet. Yes, we are connected fully to the city grid here.
Compact shower was serviceable.
So much open floor area.
Ahhh… This one is just right. Excellent latex mattress in the sleeping loft.
Plenty of headroom. I am 6′-0″ tall.
This would even work for egress, although it’s a long drop.
